Striking it with Children from Open Hands Home, Kajang
Kuala Lumpur, 15 July 2017: Bowling they wanted to do and bowling they got! IREKA CARES volunteers and 19 children from the Open Hands Children’s Home in Kajang spent the morning at the Bukit Kiara Sports Club on Saturday, 15 July. For most of them, this was the first time they had every done bowling and the feedback received was very positive. Even 9 year old Gina managed a strike, which is more than many of the adults got! Throwing the bowling balls and hitting the pins may seem like a simple exercise but it requires a great amount of hand-eye coordination which the children picked up easily. So, this was the perfect game for young (i.e. the children) and old alike (i.e. the volunteers) to sharpen our motor and coordination skills.
After expanding all that energy, it was time to have a delicious lunch provided by the Bukit Kiara Club which the children tucked into heartily. They continued to discuss the bowling games and there was plenty of talk of where to next – could it be a trip to the cinema or swimming perhaps? One or two of the children felt that waiting another 2 months was far too long to wait to spend time with the IREKA CARES volunteers. This is satisfaction indeed!
Najla Wan Abdul Rahman, Chairperson of the IREKA CARES Action Committee enthuses, “It was a fun and competitive day. I am always so proud of how giving the volunteers are and for sure, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We are already looking forward to the next outing.”
