IREKA UNIT CLINCHES RM268M BUILDING CONTRACT IN ISKANDAR JOHOR
Kuala Lumpur, 18 June 2012: Ireka Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd, theinfrastructure unit of Bursa Malaysia Main Market-listed Ireka Corporation Berhad (‘Ireka’), has been awarded a RM268,600,000 contract by UEM Land Berhad, for the construction of a 35-storey, 246-unit serviced apartments and a 16-storey office tower with retail space, car parks and recreational facilities (the ‘Project’).
The Project is located in Puteri Harbour, an integrated waterfront and marina development in Nusajaya, Iskandar Johor. The Project will commence on 1 August 2012 and is expected to be completed in 24 months.
This contract will bring Ireka’s current order book to about RM1.6 billion, of which approximately RM500 million remains outstanding.
The Project is expected to contribute positively to the earnings of Ireka Group for the financial years ending 31 March 2013 onwards.
Commenting on the award of the contract, Group Managing Director of Ireka, Lai Siew Wah, said, “It is a significant achievement for the Group to be awarded with another construction project in Johor, following the completion of Kulai-Second Link Expressway Interchange. Ireka will continue to pursue more new opportunities, capitalising on its experience and expertise in infrastructure, building and civil engineering works going forward.”
Ireka’s current construction order book includes the 330-bed City International Hospital (a component of the 37.54 hectare medical city, International Hi-Tech Healthcare Park) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; design and build of the Harbour Mall Sandakan and the Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan hotel in Sabah; as well as two office towers and the Aloft Hotel which are located at Lot G, KL Sentral.
Since 1967, Ireka has completed a number of significant projects including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport runway, Kuala Lumpur section of Middle-Ring Road II, North-South Expressway, Putrajaya Government Administrative Offices, DiGi Corporate Office (D’House), Technology Park Malaysia, OCBC Bank’s Kuala Lumpur Head Office, Wisma AIG, 1 Mont’ Kiara (offices and retail mall) and Brunei Embassy (in Beijing, China). Ireka is also involved in three award-winning projects namely The Westin Kuala Lumpur hotel and upmarket condominium SENI Mont’ Kiara in Kuala Lumpur, and urban renewal development Sandakan Harbour Square (Sabah).
