STRIKE AND SPLASH DAY OUT WITH IREKA CARES

Mont’ Kiara, 23 July 2016: By popular demand, IREKA CARES spent Saturday, 23 July, 2016 at the Bukit Kiara Club with 30 children bowling and swimming. It is these two activities that thrilled the children from The Lighthouse and Rumah Hope enormously and it is they who requested these activities because the children don’t often get the opportunity to bowl and swim. IREKA CARES is grateful to the sports management staff at Bukit Kiara Club for their generosity and hospitality.

Some of the children who had gone bowling with IREKA CARES volunteers as part of our 2015 sports programme could remember what they had learnt and it was heartening (and impressive) to see improvement in many of the children who were able to keep their bowls straight down the middle, getting the occasional Strike amid squeals of delight.

The children who went swimming had an equally good time because there is something about splashing around with your mates that is so much fun, not to mention the mini-water park area which the children gravitated to like bees to a honeypot. They were very lucky to have IREKA CARES volunteers who were more than proficient swimmers so they were taught the right swimming techniques.

Lunch was served at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and after all that energy expended, it was no wonder that all the food was devoured in little time It showed that a good time was had by all!

And the fun is not over yet…………..

As always with IREKA CARES, the children take centre stage and we are already looking forward to the next activity and spending time together (September 2016).

Leaving the last word to IREKA CARES’ Action Committee Chairperson, Fang Ai Choo, “IREKA CARES has gone from strength to strength since 2010 and the credit belongs to the many Irekians who have come forward to help out with the children, giving them great days out time and again. Last Saturday was no exception.”
