CARES
IREKA CARES is Ireka Corporation Berhad’s flagship CSR programme that has been in existence since 2010. It aims to build on Ireka’s expertise in Infrastructure, Real Estate and Technologies intending to inspire all by helping to develop an ideal living and learning environment for underprivileged children. As well maintain and sustain its CSR efforts through active and purposeful participation from volunteers enlisted from all staff levels across the organization.
The Group’s CSR charter is summed up in its IREKA CARES initiative and the acronym “CARES” stands for:
These 5 different areas form the core elements of our CSR programme
To kick-off IREKA CARES in 2010, we adopted The Lighthouse Children Welfare Home, a shelter home for children from underprivileged backgrounds, in June 2010. Building on our expertise as a contractor, developer and IT expert, we provided maintenance and refurbishment support to the Home, as well as IT support. Ireka staff across the Group spent time with the children from the Home on a range of organised activities throughout the year.
Progressing into its second year in 2011, IREKA CARES adopted Rumah Hope under the “ARTs” banner by organising a series of outreach activities in three key areas:
- Arts & Craft: Clay Pottery, Batik Printing and Mosaic Mirrors
- Living Skills: Cooking, Baking and Cross-stitching
- Performing Arts: Dance, Drama and Singing lessons
IREKA CARES’ third year kicked off with the adoption of Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels, a home for 12 underprivileged children between 5 to 16 years old, under the RECREATION banner in three key areas:-
- Leisure: Board Games, Bowling Tournament, Kite-Making Workshop and Kite-Flying Outing
- Education: Visit to Petrosains, Visit to Aquaria @ KLCC
- Fitness: Fitness programme
For the fourth year in 2013, IREKA CARES continued with the adoption of Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels under a new banner of ENVIRONMENT. With four essential themes of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repair, the children were educated on the importance of environmental conservation and preservation through the numerous outreach programmes planned. This included an outing to the Perdana Botanical Garden situated in the Heritage Park of Kuala Lumpur, as well as a soap making workshop.
The theme for IREKA CARES’s 5th year is Sports. We brought 3 homes which we had adopted in the past years to come as one for a series of Sports activities. The children get the opportunity to learn or improve their skills in badminton, swimming and bowling. Our volunteers served as coaches and mentors to the children during these sessions and this enabled us to foster better relationships with them while enjoying the fun activities together. The children and our volunteers had fun and enjoyed in IREKA CARES’ finale tele-match event where the Bukit Kiara field was full of mini athletes participating and cheering on their peers.
2016 marked the sixth year of IREKA CARES and the decision was to continue to work with the same 3 homes as the year before to continue harnessing the strong bond between Ireka’s volunteers and the children; and also for the children to get to know each other better. The activities throughout 2016 included taking the children out of their homes to broaden their learning experience and to have fun together – visiting the Royal Selangor Pewter Centre, Farm in the City, Sky Trex and Jump Street.
In the past seven years, Ireka has been proud and privileged to have worked with the Rumah Hope, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels, Lighthouse Children’s Home, and Open Hands Fellowship Children’s Home. It served the sole purpose to make a difference to the lives of the children through the direct involvement of staff.
From 2019 to 2020, Ireka Cares will focus its effort on Home of Peace based in Kuchai lama, which has been chosen to be its adopted home for the year. The following are other charitable organisations and causes which Ireka supports:

Ireka’s Flagship CSR Programme, IREKA CARES Helps Home of Peace Transform its Rooftop into Lovely Garden
March 2020: To transform the rooftop area into a beautiful and green garden for the children, IREKA CARES volunteers initiated a gardening project at Home of Peace on 14 March. This project was a continuation of IREKA CARES’ CSR programme with the objective to promote and educate the children about environmental sustainability following its previous trip to Taman Tugu with the children in November 2019.

August 2019: Being the Silver Sponsor , Ireka donates RM2500 to AIESEC UM to support its “Clean Our Plate “ (C.O.P.) programme to promote environment sustainability by addressing the alarming food wastage issue happening in Malaysia.

June 2019: Ireka supports The Hot & Cold Charity Run 2019 co-organized by Malaysia AIDS Foundation (MAF) and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. December 2018: Ireka sponsors RM11, 000 as to support Kwong Ngai Lion Dance troupe’s participation in the in the 10th Malaysia Dragon & Lion Dance Competition. The troupe had won numerous world-class championship titles globally and locally for its acrobatic performances.

December 2018: Ireka donates RM 20,000 to support Tun Siti Hasmah Gala Dinner organised by Malaysian AIDS Foundation. The objective of the event is to recognise individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution towards meeting the goal of ending AIDS by 2030.

November 2017: Ireka supports APOH Charity Fun and Adventure Hunt 2017 event organized by APOH, a non-governmental organization formed by a group of Mount Kinabalu climbers. Proceeds raised from the event will be channelled to a disabled child NGO named “IQ70” and Yayasan Sunbeam Homes.
Ireka supports Mont Kiara Community Society’s Cleanliness Campaign
November 2017: Ireka donates RM5000 to Mont Kiara Community Society Malaysia as to support its Cleanliness Campaign to make Mont Kiara one of the cleanest and greenest neighbourhoods in Kuala Lumpur. This is in line with DBKL’s initiative to transform Kuala Lumpur into one of the world’s cleanest international cities.
Ireka donates to EMPOWERED Malaysia to help underprivileged communities fighting against cancer
October 2017: Ireka donates RM1000 to EMPOWERED Malaysia (The Cancer Advocacy Society of Malaysia) as to support its Colorectal Cancer Awareness, Screening & Treatment Project (CCASTP) 2017. The CCASTP was developed in line with EMPOWERED’s mission to give underprivileged communities their basic right to fight cancer, one of the top 3 killer diseases worldwide.
Ireka donates to Pertubuhan Membantu Pesakit Parah Miskin Malaysia
August 2017: Ireka supports Pertubuhan Membantu Pesakit Parah Miskin Malaysia with the donation of RM1000 to purchase two standard wheelchairs with detachable arm set and swing way footrest rear wheel quick release Pneumatic tyre. The objective is to help the terminally ill and poorly needed patients referred by the medical Social Welfare Department at hospitals.

May 2017: Ireka sponsored RM1,000 to Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home (Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Praise Emmanuel). This non-profit organisation is a charitable home which houses and ministers to the needs of abandoned, abused, deserted desperate, destitute, homeless and orphaned children aged between 4 to 17 years old.

Ireka supports the Association for Special Children Kajang Selangor
January 2017: Ireka donated RM2,000 to Association for Special Children Kajang Selangor (Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang Selangor). This association supports the children/persons with learning disabilities and their mission is to help this group with special needs in their overall development and help them towards a life as independent and meaningful as possible.
Ireka supports Mont’ Kiara International School’s Buy-A-Brick Campaign
January 2017: Ireka sponsors RM2,000 to Mont’ Kiara International School (M’KIS)’s 2017 charity programme ‘Buy-A-Brick Campaign’, in order for them to support the non-profit global organization, Habitat for Humanity (H4H). H4H strives to provide housing for those in need and M’KIS has been involved with them for 15 years. The goal of H4H-M’IS Chapter is to help fund the construction of one home in spring 2017 in the northern part of Thailand.

Ireka participates in Danajamin Might7 Run 2016
September 2016: Ireka took part in the ‘Danajamin Might7 Run 2016’ in order to support of charitable caused. The 7km charity run organized by Danajamin Nasional Berhad in conjunction with their 7th anniversary celebration. 50% of the registration fee from this Might7 Run contributed to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).
Ireka contributes the Malaysia Fire & Rescue Department’s Community Learning Centre
April 2016: Ireka contributes RM3,000 to support the Malaysia Fire & Rescue Department to set up a Community Learning Centre at Hang Tuah, Kuala Lumpur. The centre open to public and especially children to learn about fire safety, fire prevention, life behind the scenes of a fire station.
Ireka supports The Edge – Kuala Lumpur Rat Race 2016
March 2016: This year marks the seventh year Ireka took part in The Edge Kuala Lumpur Rat Race since 2009 in support of a charitable caused. Ireka’s Group Deputy Managing Director took part in 1.5km CEO Race (Female category), and a team of 5 runners in the 5km Main Race (Mixed Category). Monica Lai and Chan Chee Kian are both winners in this year’s Rat Race under the CEO and Mixed Race respectively. The event raised a total of RM1.314 million from 53 companies in support of The Edge Education Foundation towards the promotion of English and Financial Literacy programmes. The funds also channelled to 15 beneficiaries including National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF), Ray of Hope, Second Chance Community Home, Kajang (SCCH), Selangor and Federal Territory Association for the Mentally Handicapped (SAMH) and more.

October 2015: Ireka contribute RM1,000 to Buletin Koperasi Bekas Kastam Malaysia (B.K.B. KASTAM) in support to the Department’s Welfare Fund programme.

Ireka supports Society of the Blind in Malaysia (SBM)
June 2015: Ireka donated RM1,000 to Society of the Blind in Malaysia (Pertubuhan Orang Cacat Penglihatan Malaysia) in support the organization to continue providing the needed services to all the blind residing through Malaysia. SBM was established in 1964, a national voluntary organization of visually impaired persons regardless of race or religion, dedicated to the task of securing equal rights and opportunities for blind in this country by working collectively for the socio-economic advancement of blind, with the view of enabling them to become responsible and productive citizens.

June 2015: Ireka donated RM1,000 in support for Charity Fund Raising Campaign which organized by Malaysia Mentalink Welfare Foundation (Yayasan Kebajikan Psikologi Malaysia). This non-profit organization supports the mentally ill and poor people by providing the food, medical aid and financial assistance.

May 2015: Ireka sponsors RM2,000 in support of Kiwanis Children “Keeping Hopes Alive” Charity Luncheon event which organized by The Kiwanis Club of Pantai KL. The charity luncheon is support for Children Tutorial program, other Kiwanis community service projects and Project ELIMINATE Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT), a global join collaboration between Kiwanis International and UNICEF.
Ireka supports the Malaysia Association Help for The Poor Terminally III
April 2015: Ireka donated RM1,800 to Malaysia Association Help For The Poor Terminally III (Pertubuhan Membantu Pesakit Parah Miskin Malaysia), for the purchase of one semi auto light weight wheelchair. This association was established in 1997 by retired officials of the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital with the mission to provide aid and financial support to terminally ill patients of Malaysia.

January 2015: Ireka donates RM10,000 to the Yayasan Nur Jauhar in Sabah in aid of its recipient’s scholarship fees in tertiary education. The foundation was established in 2012 with the mission to look into the plight of the disabled and poverty-stricken community by Sabah’s State Head, His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Haji Juhar bin Datuk Dr Haji Mahiruddin and his consort YAB Toh Puan Datuk Seri Panglima Hajah Norlidah binti Tan Sri Datuk R.M. Jasni, looks into the plight of the disabled and poverty-stricken community.

October 2014: Ireka sponsors RM15,000 for the purchase of air tickets and travelling expenses for Kwong Ngai Lion Dance troupe to participate in World Lion Dance Competition. This international competition served as a platform in promoting the Chinese culture, as well as increase Malaysia’s visibility as amongst top performing lion dance associations in the world arena. The troupe had won numerous world-class championship titles globally and locally for its acrobatic performances.
Ireka supports fund raising event by Grace Community Services in aid of Rumah KIDS
October 2014: Ireka purchased tickets worth RM800 of the “Larger Than Life” charity musical in aid of Rumah KIDS organised by Grace Community Services in joint partnership with Dama Music Theatre. Proceeds from this event will be channelled towards the care of the orphaned, abused and abandoned children at Rumah KIDS. Grace Community Services is a non-profit organisation who helps raise funds for abandoned children, destitute women and provides free medical clinic for the poor.

September 2014: This year marks the sixth year Ireka took part in The Edge™ Kuala Lumpur Rat Race in support of a charitable cause. Ireka was represented by Ms Monica Lai and Mr Chan Chee Kian who won the second and first place in the 1.5km CEO Race (Female & Male categories) respectively, and a team of 5 runners in the 5km Main Race (Mixed Category). The event raised a total of RM1.844 million from 69 companies in support of The Edge Education Foundation towards the promotion of English and financial literacy. The funds are channelled to 12 beneficiaries including Malaysian Mental Health Association, Montfort Boys Town, St. Nicholas’ Home in Penang and more.

May 2014: Ireka sponsored RM20,000 for the Qi Ji Musical Charity Fund Raising in aid of the Chempaka Medical Services organised by the Chempaka Buddhist Lodge (‘CBL’). CBL offers free TCM consultation and medication to relieve members and the public from sickness and medical burden.

Ireka donates to Nalanda Buddhist Society
September 2013: Ireka donated RM3,000 to Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia in support of their Free School Project that provides free education and tuition classes students from lower income families. Established in 2003, this non-profit organisation provides religious-centered educational programmes to the general public.
Ireka supports Perwira K9 Malaysia
September 2013: Ireka supported the Persatuan Warga Istimewa & Rehabilitasi Anggota K9 Malaysia (‘Perwira K9 Malaysia) by donating RM1,600 for the purchase of a wheelchair. This non-government organisation was established in 2004 and offers support and assistance to the disabled community and those living with spinal cord injuries.
Ireka supports The Edge-Bursa Malaysia KL Rat Race 2013
September 2013: Ireka’s participation in The Edge-Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Rat Race 2013 marks its fifth year in support of a charitable cause. Ireka was represented by Mr Ng Yau Siong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Infrastructure arm, in the 1km CEO Race, and a team of 5 runners in the 4.5km Main Race (Mixed Category). The event raised a total of RM1.83 million from 67 companies, with the funds being channelled to 28 beneficiaries including Malaysian Parkinson Diseases Assocation; Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Miskin Lahad Datu and Semporna, Sabah; Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Darul Ehsan Malaysia and more.

April 2013: Ireka sponsored RM10,000 for ‘Malam Amal Tahajjud Cinta’ Charity Night by Malaysian AIDS Council in aid of Malaysian AIDS Foundation and Yayasan Ihtimam Malaysia. Proceeds from this event will be channelled to the advocacy, prevention, treatment, care and support for HIV/ AIDS programmes in Malaysia, and the setting up of a shelter home for women and children living with HIV in Kelantan

September 2012: Ireka’s participation in The Edge-Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Rat Race 2012 marks its fourth year in support of a charitable cause. Ireka was represented by Mr Chan Chee Kian, who clinched the first placing in the 1km CEO Race, and a team of 5 runners in the 4.5km Main Race (Mixed Category). The event raised a total of RM2.216 million from 80 companies, with the funds being channelled to 20 selected beneficiaries via Yayasan Bursa Malaysia.

July 2012: Ireka donated RM1,000 to the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, in aid of three young children suffering from multiple heart conditions and in need of medical funds for heart surgeries.

July 2012: Ireka sponsored RM1,000 to Ray of Hope. This non-profit, non-religious social organisation brings hope and joy to people with learning disabilities regardless of races.
Ireka sponsors charity musical concert in support of Chempaka Stroke Rehabilitation Centre
June 2012: Ireka sponsored RM20,000 for Qi Ji Musical Concert 2012, in aid of Chempaka Stroke Rehabilitation Centre. The rehabilitation centre provides free medical consultations, services and medications as well as physiotherapy and acupuncture treatment to stroke patients.

Ireka sponsors musical production by the Young KL Singers
November 2011: Ireka sponsored RM1,000 for ‘Together As One’ musical production by Young KL Singers (YKLS), which honoured all faiths through music without any form of discrimination. With participation from people of various backgrounds, the concert celebrated Malaysia’s cultural diversity and promoted understanding towards each other’s beliefs and faith.
Ireka supports The Edge-Bursa Malaysia KL Rat Race 2011
September 2011: Ireka’s supporters exceed 100 in its third participation in The Edge-Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Rat Race. Ireka was represented by the COO of Technologies arm, Mr Yap Ket Bin, in the 1 km CEO Race, and a team of 5 runners in the 4.5km Main Race (Mixed Category). Donation raised from this event amounted RM1.93 million from 90 companies, with the funds being channelled to 20 beneficiaries including National Cancer Society Malaysia, Parents Without Partners, Dignity for Children Foundation, Persatuan Sindrom Down Negeri Johor, and National Council for The Blind.
Ireka sponsors gala charity fashion event
July 2011: Ireka sponsored RM10,000 for ‘A Charity Evening of Ultimate Italian Dream – SOGNO ITALIANO’ which was organised by Malaysia Tatler and Italian Trade Commission. The event raised funds for Yayasan Nurul Yaqeen, PIBG-SMKPP, Muhammad Danish Naufal Shahrul Ridzwan; and Ng Chi Han. Yayasan Nurul Yaqeen runs the ‘School in Hospital’ project that funds school-going children who undergo long-term medical treatments, to continue with their studies in hospitals. Donation for PIBG-SMKPP will be used to build computer labs for poor students. Ireka supports Heartbeat Vietnam’s ‘Scar of Life’ project
July 2011: Ireka donated USD5,000 to the ‘Scar of Life’ project by Heartbeat Vietnam to help children who are born with congenital heart diseases. Heartbeat Vietnam, under the VinaCapital Foundation, has saved over 2,200 children’s lives and they also provide family grants for food, education, medical expenses, travel and continuing care grants. VinaCapital Foundation’s mission is to empower the children and youth in Vietnam by providing opportunities for growth through health and education projects.

May 2011: Ireka sponsored RM10,000 for the ‘Buddy vs The Killer’ Musical Charity Dinner by British Theatre Playhouse, to raise funds for its “Stop Dengue Mission” programme for schools. The programme will educate school children on ways they can play an active role in eradicating Dengue disease. Yayasan Tunku Naquiyuddin foundation is a trust fund established to provide educational assistance to underprivileged children.
Ireka supports Caring for the Future Malaysia to build children’s home
April 2011: Ireka donated RM2,000 to Caring For the Future Malaysia (CCFM) for its fund to build a Children’s Home in Papar, Sabah. The Home will provide a clean, self-sustainable and environmentally-friendly shelter for orphaned, abused, neglected and homeless children. Established in 2008, CCFM is a private, non-profit organisation that cares for children between ages 3 – 17 regardless of race, gender and religion.
Ireka lends a helping hand to victims of earthquake-tsunami in Japan, via Kiwanis
March 2011: Ireka supported Kiwanis One Day-Sendai Fund by donating RM5,000 to help alleviate sufferings of children in Sendai, Japan who were affected by the earthquake-tsunami disaster in March 2011. Kiwanis One Day, under the auspices of Kiwanis International, is an annual event for Kiwanis clubs and members in more than 90 countries worldwide to join hands in carrying out community service and demonstrate their care for children.

Ireka supports Kuala Lumpur Rotary Charity Foundation to establish children’s home
December 2010: Ireka donated RM5,000 to Kuala Lumpur Rotary Charity Foundation via a fund-raising dinner organised by The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur Diraja (RC KL Diraja). Proceeds will go to the establishment of a new home for underprivileged and disabled children. RC KL Diraja is part of Rotary International, a worldwide volunteer organisation dedicated to serving the communities they live in.
Ireka supports IJN Foundation with a Heart
November 2010: Ireka donated RM3,500 to the Patient Welfare Fund of IJN Foundation to give needy heart patients a new lease in life. IJN Foundation is a non-profit organisation affiliated to Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) or National Heart Institute. It provides financial assistance to Malaysian heart patients who cannot afford their medical aid. IJN Foundation also strives to improve the state of Malaysian cardiac medicine by funding research and clinical trials, medical education and training.
Ireka supports education for underprivileged and disabled children via INTAZ
October 2010: Ireka donated RM10,000 to Institute Tengku Ampuan Afzan (INTAZ) via a Charity Gala Dinner held in conjunction with the 80th birthday celebration of KDYMM Sultan Pahang, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah. Founded in 1995 by the late Tengku Ampuan Afzan of Pahang, INTAZ provides education for underprivileged and disabled children at five INTAZ centres in Pahang. INTAZ also hopes to build a new, well-equipped centre to better serve the needy.
Ireka supports the Pink Ribbon cause
October 2010: Ireka supported the Pink Ribbon cause by donating RM5,000 to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA). BCWA’s mission rests on the philosophy that a volunteer or a breast cancer survivor uses her experience to help another individual diagnosed with breast cancer. Besides providing emotional and social support and non-medical physical aids to individuals with breast cancer, BCWA also conducts public education programmes.
Ireka ‘Made a Difference’ in Charity Century Ride
October 2010: Ireka’s Group General Manager, Leonard Yee participated in the ‘Make A Difference’ (MAD) Charity Century Ride 2010 which flagged off from Tropicana Golf & Country Resort Kuala Lumpur and ended at Kluang, Johor. By completing the 360 km ride, Leonard has managed to raise RM85,000 from his family, friends, Ireka staff and management as well as business associates for various charities in Kuala Lumpur, Kluang and Vietnam.
