The World of Wellness
The RuMa Hotel’s Spa, called UR SPA officially opened its doors in April 2019. The concept behind UR SPA is essentially ‘Modern Science, Ancient Healing’. Urban Resort Concepts (the hotel management company for The RuMa and UR SPA) has always been focused on the delivery of an urban resort experience premised on a soothing, understated and revitalising environment that gives intimate access to a destination. Creating a proprietary spa brand was a natural step in our evolution to provide a bespoke and tailored approach to a holistic wellness lifestyle.
UR SPA offers supercharged treatments that can be enjoyed singularly or tailored to the individual’s schedule for targeted, optimal results. Five signature core therapies include UR Ageless a rejuvenating advanced natural facial for those desiring effortlessly radiant beauty; UR Active, an invigorating and fortifying ritual for globe-trotting individuals seeking vitality and revival of the spirit; UR Vital, incorporating a full body scrub, massage and Italian Grotta mud mask to revitalise overstressed individuals wishing to attain a complete restoration of being; UR a Warrior, a healing formation that strengthens body and mind for harmoniously balanced state; and UR a Goddess, a nourishing and restorative balm for exhausted individuals seeking respite from the frenetic pace of modern life. UR SPA is open everyday and to everybody, not just the hotel guests. In fact, a good number of guests who frequent our spa are locals living in the city.
Embracing the luxury of handcrafted experiences with locally inspired, cultural authenticity, UR SPA has created a series of genderless treatments that incorporate the healing traditions of indigenous cultures, firmly rooted in the principles of modern science and ancient healing, tailor-made therapies are developed with industry leading creators of science-based conscious formulas, Comfort Zone.
To accompany the UR SPA is The Barber at The RuMa by Truefitt & Hill which was established in London in 1805 and listed as the world’s oldest barbershop. The brand complements The RuMa’s nod to Kuala Lumpur’s colonial influence, while also reflecting our hotel’s emotional, aesthetic quality and bespoke service.
F&B at The RuMa Hotel and Residences
F&B is no longer an afterthought for hotels, and is in fact one of the most important elements that contribute to the success of a hotel. The RuMa Hotel is no exception and this issue of CiTi- ZEN focuses on the beverage aspects of the F&B partnership because the former usually plays second fiddle to the food part. At The RuMa Hotel, the SEVEN (lobby) and SANTAI (6th floor) bars plays a significant role in attracting customers. According to Natassia, “The main approach behind creating the beverage menu for The RuMa was to ensure that we have spirits that are not commonly found in regular bars and hotels around the city. This enabled us to be a bit more creative with our cocktail menu, featuring unique spirits and pairing them with premium mixers and garnishes. We are also the only hotel in the city to serve Dom Perignon by the glass!”
The cocktails served on the hotel’s menus are essentially classic cocktails such as the Negroni, Whiskey Sour and Rob Roy. However, a lot of time is spent curating the cocktail recipes to find best possible base spirits to naturally enhance each cocktail’s flavour. The Jungle Bird is a tiki cocktail that was created in Malaysia during the 70s. The origins of how the cocktail was created remains quite uncertain, but it started gaining worldwide recognition and is served in many bars around the world. The RuMa Hotel has its own take on the Jungle Bird and it’s fitting to have it as our signature cocktail.
We’ve created a cocktail menu to not only complement the menu, but to complement the story of The RuMa being a modern interpretation or representation of Kuala Lumpur. Similarly, the extensive gin and tonic menu serves as a small reminder of the P. Ramlee movies where the gin and tonic was the beverage of choice. We also curated our wine list so that it is not overly-extensive, and again offer wines that are a bit more uncommon and pairs well with the food that we serve at the hotel.
